About Us

The Annual Island Wide Science Fair is now in its 45th year. The purpose of the fair is to stimulate an interest in science in our youth and in the Guam Community in order to encourage students to become interested in careers in science. Careers in medicine, nursing, architecture, agriculture, engineering, computer technologies, innovation, energy, material sciences, product development, and many other careers are rooted in science.

Research has shown that Universities accept students that have completed science fair projects more often than those who have not completed science fair projects. Not only do colleges accept the students more often who have completed science projects and participated in science fairs, but those students tend to complete their college educations more often than other students who have not had the science project experiences. This is one of the reasons we feel that science fairs are worth our time and effort.

Our winners have been very successful over the years because of their participation in the island Wide Science Fair, for example Daniel Kang one of our winners for the last several years has won a first place award in materials sciences at the International Science and Engineering Fair, representing Guam at the most prestigious undergraduate science program in the world.

Daniel Kang

Daniel Kang went on to win 1st place in Physics not just representing Guam but representing, the United States of America at the Young European Fair held in Ireland. Finally he won an Air Force Award also at ISEF and has now been accepted at Stanford University on scholarship.
The Guam Island Wide Science Fair is held at the University of Guam with an awards ceremony usually at the Guam Hilton Hotel. The Island Wide Science Fair includes all students, k thru 12, from all public, private, DODEA, and home schools. The Island Wide Science Fair accepts winners from Micronesia as well. It is organized each year by a dedicated group of professors, medical doctors, sponsors and volunteers. Each year trophies are distributed to over 72 category winners, along with Computers and Grand Prizes, internships and other awards for selected winners. The senior division winner represents Guam at the International Science and Engineering Fair if their project meets all ISEF criteria or they may be selected for Space Camp or an Internship.
